ADOLESCENT AND CHILD MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING
Are you a parent feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to help your child? Does your child have behavioral issues you aren't sure how to handle? Is your teen rebelling and you are concerned about her/his safety. Is your family going through a difficult transition: a death, a divorce, a move? Is your child or adolescent feeling depressed, anxious, experiencing low self-esteem or stuck in anger? Bringing your child or adolescent into counseling is a great tool that can help you feel less alone in your caregiving.
While counseling children, play and art are incorporated into the sessions in order to provide youth with developmentally appropriate interventions. Creativity is a great way to access and process feelings and emotions with which children are grappling. Although, creativity is often incorporated into counseling with adolescents as well, youth over age ten tend to benefit from verbal processing and treatment modalities too. When receiving services, the counseling is molded to best fit each child or adolescent and what is most appropriate for them. Communication with caregivers, school officials and other important adults in the youth's life may also be a very important aspect of the youth's therapeutic process.
